Farmers face tear gas, water cannons near Haryana's Jind after Shambhu border

Farmers marching from Punjab to Delhi faced tear gas shells and water cannons as police tried to stop large groups from entering Haryana through the Khanauri border in Jind district. The demonstrators claimed that a farmer was injured in the tear gas shell firing at the Data Singhwala-Khanauri border.

Kisan Morcha condemns police action; calls for protest on Feb 16

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) condemned the Central Government for resorting to what it termed was the excessive use of state power and mass arrests to prevent the Delhi Chalo March of farmers organisations on Tuesday. In a statement, the SKM said that it was shocking that drones were used to drop tear gas shells on the farmers by the administration.

Mobile internet suspended for next 48-hours

In order to maintain status-quo authorities in Haryana have extended the suspension of mobile internet services, bulk sms, and dongle services for and additional 48 hours in the jurisdiction of districts Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa.

Delhi remains under tight security as farmers determined to march

Security remained tight in the national capital with personnel deployed in huge numbers and barricades regulating movement in central Delhi and at border points with Haryana, causing hardships to commuters. The traffic movement at Singhu (Delhi-Sonipat) and Tikri borders (Delhi-Bahadurgarh) is suspended adding the security personnel in anti-riot gears are deployed and drones being used to keep an eye on the situation.

Union minister ready for discussions

Union agriculture minister Arjun Munda said that efforts to engage in constructive dialogue with the farmers' union persist. "I had already said that our efforts to hold positive discussions with the farmers' union will continue. Farmers' organizations must understand that the decision on the law that is being talked about cannot be taken in such a way that people criticize the situation without thinking and understanding in the coming days. Rather, we should try to keep in mind all the aspects of it and discuss it," he said.

Rahul Gandhi speaks with injured farmer

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi spoke over the phone with a farmer who was injured during police action at the Shambhu border near Ambala. During his visit to a hospital in Rajpura, Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring arranged a conversation between Gandhi and the farmer over a mobile phone. Gandhi asked the injured farmer where all he sustained injuries, and the farmer replied that he had sustained wounds on his hands and near his eye.

After Tikri, now Singhu border completely sealed, traffic diverted

The Delhi Police completely sealed the Singhu border on Tuesday evening with barricades and heavy deployment of forces, including paramilitary personnel. This move comes amid reports of farmers clashing with the police at the Haryana-Punjab Shambhu border and in Haryana's Jind District on Tuesday, leaving around 13 people injured.

Congress government will provide legal guarantee for MSP: Kharge

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that his party would provide legal guarantee to Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops after coming to power. "If Congress comes to power at the Centre (after the Lok Sabha polls), it will ensure legal guarantee to MSP in the interest of farmers. It is our first guarantee," Kharge said.
