Delhi car blast: New video surfaces showing explosion near Red Fort area; watch

NEW DELHI: CCTV footage has captured the moment of the powerful explosion from the car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday, which left several vehicles in flames. At least 12 people were killed and multiple others injured in the incident, officials said.

The footage shows a busy, bustling street near the historic Red Fort, followed by a sudden flash of bright yellow light lasting a few seconds -- the moment the explosion occurred.



According to Delhi Police sources quoted by the PTI news agency, the white Hyundai i20 that exploded near the Red Fort Metro Station parking was allegedly driven by Mohammad Umar, a Kashmiri doctor suspected to be behind the attack. Umar, a resident of J&K's Pulwama, is believed to have links with a terror module recently busted in Faridabad.

According to the police sources quoted by ANI, the footage shows that the suspect was alone at the time.

"Investigators are now tracing the route towards Daryaganj, while more than 100 CCTV clips, including footage from nearby toll plazas, are being examined to establish the complete movement of the vehicle," the sources said.

Police have registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and are examining CCTV footage from the area to trace the suspect’s movements before the blast.
