PAKUR, Jharkhand: Fifteen passengers, including two women and a girl were injured when three low power crude bombs went off in a passenger train near Kotalpukur railway station in Pakur district of Jharkhand on Thursday morning.
The bombs hidden in bags went off at 9:55 am in the bogies of the 803 Up Rampurhat-Barharwa passenger train as it was approaching the outer cabin of Kotalpukur station injuring 15 passengers, Divisional Commissioner of Pakur K K Khandelwal said.
Eastern Railway sources in Kolkata, however, put the number of injured at eight.
Superintendent of Police Sashinath Jha said the bombs were being ferried by miscreants onboard the train for use elsewhere when they went off. He ruled out the hand of extremists.
Of the injured nine were admitted to the Pakur hospital, where the condition of three was critical, Khandelwal said.
The rest were discharged after being given first aid at the station, he said.
The passenger train has been controlled at Kotalpukur station for forensic investigation, they said.
