NEW DELHI: Bhavesh Chaudhary, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) spokesman in Srinagar, on Wednesday said that the paramilitary forces work with highest restraint while being posted in the sensitive regions of Jammu and Kashmir.

"When someone slaps you, the instant reaction would be retaliation but see how our jawans stay patient despite being armed," Chaudhary said.

The CRPF spokesperson's comment came a day after a video showing mob attacking CRPF jawans went viral on the social media.

"One can see how jawans work with highest restraint in the valley," he added.

In the video, an angry mob is seen slapping and kicking security personnels,on election duty in Srinagar, in an attempt to provoke them for a reaction.

Meanwhile, the state police has said that the video was shot on the poll day and the investigation is underway.

"The incident took place on Sunday. Investigations are currently in process," a senior police official said.

He also assured strict action will be taken against those behind the incident.

On Sunday, eight protesters were killed and more than 150 civilians and security personnel were injured in unprecedented violence in central Kashmir during the byelection for the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat.

The turnout, recorded at 7.45 per cent, was the lowest ever for the constituency that had seen 25.9 per cent polling in 2014.
