CRPF jawan killed in Anantnag terror attack

SRINAGAR:

Terrorists

fired upon a CRPF party on Tuesday, killing a paramilitary trooper in

Bijbehara

area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The attackers also lobbed a grenade on the

security

personnel, but it didn’t explode and was later defused by the bomb

disposal

squad in Sangam area, said a senior police officer.


The jawan, Shiv Lal, sustained bullet injuries in his chest in the attack and was rushed to Bijbehara sub-district hospital in a critical condition. Doctors there referred him to the government medical college and hospital in Anantnag for specialised treatment, but he succumbed on the way.

, Dr Abdul Majeed Mehrab, said that Lal was declared brought dead at the facility.

Soon after the attack, security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area to trace the perpetrators, a senior police officer said.
