JALANDHAR: Cricketer and AAP MP Harbhajan Singh has given a grant of Rs 15.60 lakh from his MPLAD fund to purchase new modern machinery for the gymnasium being built at Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium in Jalandhar. Harbhajan Singh handed the letter regarding this grant to District Badminton Association secretary Ritin Khanna on Tuesday.
Khanna said that Harbhajan had an old association with this stadium in his budding days and he would come there to play badminton and for his fitness training.
He said that the machinery would be of great benefit to the players because weight training was very important for badminton players and in the absence of proper machinery, the players could not train well. He also thanked Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner and DBA President Vishesh Sarangal for helping the association in getting this grant.
Khanna also informed that in the last four years Rs 85 lakhs had been spent on the rejuvenation of the Raizada Hansraj Badminton stadium. With these funds new synthetic courts, Yoga Aerobics Centre, Physiotherapy Centre, Sports Shop and a Restaurant have been constructed. DBA has organized major tournaments like district, state level and north zone.
