JIRIBAM (MANIPUR): The Army have launched a major operation to flush out Manipur insurgents following an attack on a security camp near this border town in Imphal East district, official sources said on Friday.
Army personnel of different units surrounded Barak circle area near Jiribam, where militants of Manipur People's Army, the armed wing of major insurgent organization United National Liberation Front (UNLF), were operating, the sources said.

Sources said MPA insurgents first attacked a security camp on October 22 last by using rocket launchers and other highly sophisticated weapons but did not confirm whether the troops suffered any casualty or not.
After the attack, heavy exchange of fire between insurgents and army personnel was reported and the encounter was still on, the sources said.
