Council of mantris becomes younger

NEW DELHI: The revamped

council of ministers

(CoM) has become younger and has a mix of both experienced hands in government and professionals from various fields. The average age of the new CoM now stands at 58 years compared to 61 years of the earlier council.

The age profile of the ministers show that 14 of them including six

Cabinet

ministers are below 50. The average age of 36 new ministers who took oath on Wednesday is 55.8 years.

This seems as a move towards promoting the next generation of leaders and to prepare them for the future.

Government sources said that the revamped council of ministers is “yuvaon ki sarkar” tasked to lead innovation and change. Among all the ministers, Nisith Pramanik a Lok Sabha MP from West Bengal is the youngest at 35 while the oldest member in the council of ministers is Som Parkash, who is 72.

Other ministers below 50 years are Smriti Irani (45), Kiren Rijiju (49), Mansukh Mandaviya (49), Kailash Choudhary (47), Sanjeev Balyan (49), Anurag Thakur (46), Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar (42), Anupriya Singh Patel (40), Shantanu Thakur (38), John Barla (45) and
