PUNE/JABALPUR: Officers at Yerawada police station spent more time questioning the relationship between Aneesh Awadhia and Ashwini Koshta, the techies who were fatally knocked down by a Porsche Taycan driven by a minor on Sunday, while the accused were given "VIP treatment", Anish's younger brother, Devesh, has alleged.

"Police were allegedly taking care of the accused's comfort and quizzing Aneesh's friends about the birthday party," he said in Jabalpur.

Aneesh's maternal uncle, Gyanendra Soni, said the experience was "traumatic" as police kept humiliating Anish's friends and Devesh, who is pursuing higher studies in Pune. "We are in a quandary about whether or not we should send his younger brother again to Pune."

Aneesh and Ashwini, both aged 24, were from MP and studied in Pune before taking up jobs with a software company. On Sunday morning, Aneesh was on his way to drop Ashwini at her rented accommodation in Kharadi when the car driven by a 17-year-old hit their motorcycle from behind.

Aneesh's paternal uncle, Surya Awadhia, wondered how the juvenile accused got bail. "The court (he meant Juvenile Justice Board) should have thought about the families of the deceased," he said pointing out that the board's recommendations were not proportionate to the gravity of the crime.

Ashwini was supposed to visit Jabalpur next month to celebrate her father's birthday and had even booked tickets, said a relative.

Her parents and brother arrived in Pune on Sunday afternoon and took her body to Jabalpur. "The final rites will be held on Tuesday," her brother, Sampreet, said, adding, "I am not in a position to speak further."
