Congress leader P Chidambaram faints due to heat in Ahmedabad, rushed to hospital

NEW DELHI: Veteran leader and former Union finance minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday fainted due to heat at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad amid the ongoing Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting and All-India Congress Committee (AICC) national session.

Chidambaram was rushed to the hospital by the party workers.


chidambaram's son, Karti Chidambaram said in a post on 'X': "My father @PChidambaram_IN had an episode of presyncope due to extreme heat & dehydration in Ahmedabad & is under observation in Zydus Hospital. The doctors are reviewing his parameters which are currently normal."

In a social media post, Chidambaram said: "Because of extreme heat, I suffered dehydration. All tests are normal. I am perfectly well now."

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin also spoke to Congress MP Karti Chidambaram and enquired about the health of his father.

Congress leaders from all over the country gathered in Gujarat, a state the party has not won in 30 years, to discuss its next political steps over the next two days, April 8 and April 9.

The party aims to recover from recent state election defeats that followed its strong performance in the Lok Sabha elections.

Ahmedabad has been hosting the 84th National Convention of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on April 8–9. This is the first time in 64 years that the event is being held in Gujarat.

As part of the convention, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) began deliberations today in Ahmedabad to discuss the party’s future plans, key national matters, internal organisation, and preparations for upcoming elections. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and other prominent Congress leaders are participating in the meeting.
