Vikramjit, son of former Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, submitted his resignation to Partap Bajwa, the leader of opposition in the Punjab assembly, according to party sources.

Vikramjit has been actively voicing his opposition to the potential candidacy of former CM Charanjit Singh Channi from Jalandhar reserved constituency. Channi’s name is reportedly being considered by the party high command. Phillaur MLA had recently asserted that Channi should first win from his home constituency, Chamkaur Sahib as Jalandhar will not accept him or his "gimmicks".

No Channi wave in 22’ polls: Vikramjit
Vikramjit argued that there was no “Channi wave” during the 2022 assembly elections which helped Congress in Doaba region. He also pointed out that Channi's attempts to associate himself with an endorsement from Dera Sachkhand Ballan were misguided.

MLA Vikramjit's father, Chaudhary Santokh Singh, passed away during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, which led to a byelection. His mother, Karamjit Kaur, was fielded as a Congress candidate, but lost to Sushil Rinku of the AAP.

Vikramjit's resignation has once again brought the internal strife within the Congress party to the forefront.
Three-time Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, who twice represented the Ludhiana Lok Sabha segment, recently defected to the BJP, adding to the party's woes. In March, deputy leader of opposition Raj Kumar Chabbewal and former MLA Gurpreet Singh GP left the Congress within a week.
