Congress, AAP, DMK unite in nationwide protests over Amit Shah's Ambedkar remark

The Congress party held protests across India on Thursday. The protests are over remarks made by Union home minister Amit Shah about B.R. Ambedkar. Shah made the comments in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday during the current Parliament Winter Session. The Congress is demanding Shah's resignation.

Union home minister Amit Shah addressed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, commenting on Congress leaders’ emphasis on Ambedkar. Shah stated, “Congress leaders would have got a place in heaven had they chanted the name of God rather than following the 'fashion of repeating Ambedkar’s name.’” The remarks were made during Tuesday’s Rajya Sabha session.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members protested Thursday in all 70 Delhi Assembly constituencies. The protests followed remarks about BR Ambedkar made by BJP leader Amit Shah in Parliament. AAP’s Jangpura candidate Manish Sisodia spoke at one protest. “Amit Shah ji, Constitution will guide this nation, not your politics of hatred; those who find Ambedkar's ideas unsettling are free to leave the country,” Sisodia said.
