kohima: nagaland chief minister s c jamir on saturday said internecine conflicts were destroying the naga society and causing great setback to the ongoing peace process and called for an immediate halt to clashes. the political process and dialogue to resolve the problem must be based on wide ranging consultations and would eventually be acceptable to all sections of the naga people, he said affter inaugurating the second annual hornbill festival, a tourism promotion effort, which coincides with nagaland statehood day.
the spectre of violence between the two nscn factions, particularly in the past few weeks, had nullified all rewards and gains of peace expected from the cease-fire agreements, he said. "we condemn terrorism in other parts of the world, but is our situation any better when such killings continue to take a toll of human lives?" he asked. nscn(i-m) had agreed for the cease-fire with the centre in august 1997, while nscn (k) entered into similar pact in april.
