KOLKATA: Huge cut-outs of Mamata Banerjee on Kolkata streets have not only surprised many, but has also irked the state chief electoral officer as they have been financed by Coal India.
The case will now be referred to the Election Commission.
"After receiving a complaint, we conducted an investigation. It was found that Coal India had funded the cut-outs.
Since the model code of conduct is operational now and Coal India is a government organisation, it can be assumed that government money was spent for political publicity," said CEO Basudeb Banerjee.
The case will be referred to the Election Commission with supporting documents to find out if it was a breach of the model code of conduct, he claimed.
