Clip shows SHO pointing gun at women voters

MUZAFFARNAGAR: Two sub-inspectors from Muzaffarnagar were among seven UP police personnel suspended for checking voters' identity and Aadhaar cards "unlawfully" and for breaching voter guidelines during the assembly bypolls on Wednesday. While SI Neeraj Kumar was posted at Shahpur police station, SI Ompal Singh was posted at Bhopa police station in Muzaffarnagar district. The other suspended cops include two officers from Kanpur and three from Moradabad.

Adding to the charged election drama was a video that surfaced on social media which purportedly showed an SHO pointing a gun at women going to a polling booth in Kakrouli village under Meerapur assembly segment in Muzaffarnagar district, triggering outrage. The video was shared by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, demanding immediate action.

In the video, Kakrouli police station SHO Rajiv Sharma, with a pistol in hand, can be seen walking towards a woman shouting, "We have the orders". The Muslim woman stands her ground saying, "This is not right."

SP national president Akhilesh Yadav accused BJP govt of "misusing administrative machinery to manipulate the election process". ", SP shot a number of written complaints to EC and uploaded social media posts to buttress its claims.
