AHMEDNAGAR: An army jawan was killed and six of his colleagues were injured when a jawan of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) opened fire following a quarrel among them at the railway station here on Sunday afternoon, police said.
The deceased and the injured belonging to Army''s NCC & S at Ahmednagar and had arrived at the railway station to take the Goa-Nizamuddin Express on way to Delhi to participate in a cycling meet, the additional police chief Ram Katake told PTI.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) has detained all nine CISF jawans and their officer Hamid Khan, and seized their weapons. However, it is yet to book them for murder, GRP sources said.
The deceased, identified as Ravindra Kumar Samay Chavan (28), and the injured as Yashpal Singh Virendra Singh (21) reportedly had a tiff with the CISF jawans travelling in the general compartment of the Express train, over not opening the door of the coach.
After the CISF jawans refused to open the door, the army jawans boarded an adjacent bogie, GRP sources further said.
As the train was leaving the station, Ravindra Kumar and Yashpal Singh had a fresh argument with CISF jawans, one of whom later pulled out a rifle and fired a round outside, killing Ravindra Kumar and injuring Yashpal Singh, Inspector Ahir of Ahmednagar GRP told PTI.
"The CISF jawans are not revealing as to who fired the round", the GRP official said adding that they were on way from Goa to the CISF centre at Barwah in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the body of Ravindra Kumar has been sent for an autopsy.
Senior officials of Army visited the railway station following the incident, while senior GRP officials are camping at the station to supervise investigations.
