Somewhere between the late 16th and early 17th century, the Mughal emperor Akbar invited Jesuit missionaries – who had made Old Goa their home – to one of his much-loved inter-religious dialogues. The delegation from Goa took with it local craftsmen who, upon returning, crafted a European chest of drawers that sported Mughal inlay work and Hindu Naga iconography.
