hyderabad: underworld don chhota rajan is reportedly setting up bases in south india. it is learnt that he is planning large-scale extortions from local businessmen, members of the film industry and hawala operators. investigations by the rangareddy district police into the activities of the chhota rajan gang revealed that it had set bases in hyderabad, vijayawada, bangalore and chennai.
naresh kumar, a member of the chhota rajan gang arrested by the police, told investigators that the gang had several members working in hyderabad, bangalore and chennai. police inquiries have revealed that two gangs were operating in the city. ''some people abroad are in regular touch with these groups through mobile phones,'' a police officer said. inquiries revealed that ramesh naidu, a native of kurnool, was the kingpin for the hyderabad operations of chhota rajan. naidu, son of an ex-army officer, reportedly stayed in mumbai for a long time and came in contact with the underground operatives. naidu also helped the chhota rajan gang secure a house in vivekanandanagar in kukatpally. the gangsters reportedly paid rs 60,000 advance to the house owner and agreed to pay a rent of rs 12,000 per month, which is rather exorbitant in the kukatpally locality.
