Cheetah Veera gives birth to two cubs at Kuno National Park

NEW DELHI: Cheetah Veera gave birth to two cubs at Kuno National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur district on Tuesday, chief minister Mohan Yadav said in a post on X. This brings the total number of cheetahs at KNP to 26, including 14 cubs.

In his post, Yadav stated, "Two cheetah cubs enter Madhya Pradesh's Jungle Book. I am happy to share that the number of cheetahs is continuously increasing in the state. Today, female cheetah Veera has given birth to two cubs."


He congratulated the officers, doctors, and field staff involved in the cheetah project, stating that their tireless efforts have made Madhya Pradesh known as the "land of cheetahs."

The chief minister stated that the growing cheetah population in the state is boosting tourism and creating new employment opportunities.

"We are always ready for conservation, promotion and restoration of all wildlife along with cheetahs," said Yadav.

On September 17, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released five female and three male Nambian Cheetas into enclosures at Kuno National Park, marking the world's first intercontinental translocation of the big cats. This initiative came seven decades after cheetahs became extinct in India due to hunting and habitat destruction.
