NEW DELHI: Former MLA Janardan Paswan of the LJP-Ramvilas won Chatra assembly constituency with 1,09,019 votes on Saturday. Paswan beat Rashtriya Janata Party (RJD)'s Rashmi Prakash, daughter-in-law of outgoing MLA Satyanand Bhogta, by a margin of 18,401 votes.

The decision of Paswan to stand from SC community, following Bhogta community’s reclassification as ST, had caused discontent within the Bhogta community.

The counting of votes took place at Chatra College. Eighteen tables were used for counting votes from Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and 14 tables for postal ballots in the constituency. The counting process consisted of 27 rounds in Chatra with eleven candidates in fray.

Security measures at Chatra College included CCTV surveillance and deployment of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), and district police. Authorities had prohibited intoxicants and electronic devices, including mobile phones and laptops, inside the counting center.
