Chandni Chowk constituency of Delhi Lok Sabha Election 2024: Date of voting, result, candidates list, main parties, schedule

NEW DELHI: Chandni Chowk constituency, along with six other Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi, will vote in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 25, 2024. The results for the constituency will be announced on June 4, 2024.

Chandni Chowk is one of the seven parliamentary constituencies in Delhi. It includes parts of Central Delhi, North Delhi, and North West Delhi districts. In the 2019 elections, the constituency saw a voter turnout of 62.68%. Harsh Vardhan, the BJP candidate, won with a margin of 2,28,145 votes, securing 5,19,055 votes. He defeated INC's Jai Prakash Agarwal, who received 2,90,910 votes.

In the upcoming election, the BJP has replaced its sitting two-term MP Harsh Vardhan with Praveen Khandelwal, who will be contesting his first Lok Sabha election. Khandelwal's main opponent is 79-year-old JP Agarwal of the Congress, who is contesting his tenth Lok Sabha election and has previously represented Chandni Chowk in 1984, 1989, and 1996.

Since its first election in 1957, the Congress has won in Chandni Chowk nine times. The BJP and its precursor, Bharatiya Jana Sangh, have won five times, while Sikandar Bakht of the Janata Party was elected in 1977.

This election will see a contest between a veteran Congress leader and a new BJP candidate. In Delhi, the BJP, which won all seven seats in the last Lok Sabha elections, will face the INDIA bloc parties, AAP and Congress, who are fighting in alliance.
