Centre on Adani row: 'It's between private companies and US department of justice '

NEW DELHI: In its first response to the indictment of industrialist Gautam Adani by US authorities for alleged bribery, the Indian govt said Friday this was a legal matter involving private firms, individuals and the US department of justice Distancing itself from the issue, the govt also denied it had any prior knowledge about the indictment.

"There are established procedures and legal avenues in such cases which we believe would be followed," said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, when asked about the issue. "Any request by a foreign govt for service of summons/arrest warrant is part of mutual legal assistance. Such requests are examined on merits. We have not received any request on this case from the US side."

A five-count criminal indictment was unsealed earlier this month in federal court in Brooklyn, charging Adani, nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, executives of Adani Green, with conspiracies to commit securities and wire fraud.
