Centre notifies elevation of three additional judges to permanent judges of Delhi HC

NEW DELHI: The Central Government through the ministry of law and justice on Friday notified the appointment of three additional judges of Delhi high court to permanent judges of Delhi high court.

Justice Girish Katpalia,justice Manoj Jain and justice Dharmesh Sharma of Delhi high court were elevated to permanent judges of Delhi high court on Friday.

Recently, the supreme court collegium in this regard stated that, on March 12, the collegium of the high court of Delhi unanimously recommended the additional judges whose names are set out above for appointment as permanent judges of that high court.

In terms of the Memorandum of Procedure, the judges of the supreme court conversant with the affairs of the high court of Delhi have been consulted with a view to ascertaining the suitability of the above named additional judges for being appointed as permanent judges.

The members of the committee of the supreme court constituted by the chief justice of India in terms of the resolution dated, October 26, 2017 of the supreme court Collegium have assessed the judgements of the above named additional judges. On evaluation of the judgements, the members of the committee have rated the quality of the judgements as 'good'.

With a view to assessing the merit and suitability of the above additional judges for appointment as permanent judges, we have scrutinised the material placed on record, including the observations made by the department of justice in the file.

On an overall consideration of the above proposal, the Collegium is of the view that Justices Girish Kathpalia, Manoj Jain, Dharmesh Sharma, Additional Judges are fit and suitable for being appointed as permanent Judges.

In view of the above, the Collegium resolves to recommend that Justices, Girish Kathpalia, Manoj Jain, and Dharmesh Sharma, Additional Judges, be appointed as permanent judges of the high court of Delhi against the existing vacancies.
