Centre forms Ashvini, JV of nuclear and thermal power plants
MUMBAI: In a major step towards boosting nuclear power generation in the country, the govt has given the go ahead for the formation of a new firm — Ashvini — a joint venture between Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
According to NPCIL, its share in the new organization will be 51% while NTPC will have 49%. With this, Ashvini is now authorized to build, own, and operate nuclear power plants in India.
NPCIL says that this will pave the way for pooling resources in terms of finances and expertise for the rapid expansion of nuclear power.
