CBI takes over investigation into Odisha train accident, files FIR

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday took over the investigation and filed FIR in connection with Odisha train accident that claimed lives of 275 people.

"The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case on the request of ministry of Railways, consent of the Odisha Government and further orders from Central government’s department of personnel and training (DoPT) relating to the train accident involving Coromandel Express, Yashwantpur-Howrah Express and a goods train at Bahanaga Bazar in Odisha on June 2," a CBI statement said.

CBI has taken over the investigation of the case earlier registered at Balasore Government Railway Police Station (GRPS).

A CBI team has reached Balasore, it said.
