CBI officer granted study leave

NEW DELHI: The government allowed CBI DIG Tarun Gauba’s return to his parent cadre, Uttar Pradesh, ahead of his proceeding on study leave. A 2001-batch IPS officer, Gauba was posted with the anti corruption-III unit of the agency and was part of the team investigating the case against former special director Rakesh Asthana.
When contacted, the CBI spokesperson said that Gauba was relieved at his own request as he was to proceed on a study leave.“He has been selected for Fulbright Scholarship beginning August 1. His tenure would have ended in October this year and he would have completed seven years in CBI. As per the tenure policy, he couldn’t have remained here for more than seven years,” the spokesperson said.
“So, on his personal request, he has been repatriated to his parent cadre, from where he will proceed on his scholarship.,” the officer said,
Gauba had earlier probed the Vyapam case and was later selected for the President's Medal for outstanding investigations in the case. He was given three meritorious service medals in 2017 on Republic Day.
