CBI books its own legal advisor for forgery
NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a case against its own deputy legal advisor (DLA) - Beena Raizada, posted in AC-VI unit which is probing the Vyapam scam, for forging signatures of the head of branch (HoB) showing assessment reports in her favour.
CBI says that the interpolations in the assessment notes reportedly issued under the signatures of VK Singh, the then HoB at CBI’s Patna Anti Corruption Branch, were noticed.
She had joined CBI as senior public prosecutor – ACB Patna in May 2014, and on promotion, she joined as DLA at CBI Patna Zone on November 2014. She was then transferred to Delhi AC-VI unit.
“In the office of Director of Prosecution at CBI Headquarters, New Delhi, she personally submitted her three APARs (annual performance assessment reports) for 2014, 2015 and 2016 alongwith the assessment notes for the same period bearing signature of VK Singh. Singh is currently posted as IG Jaipur Range in Rajasthan Police,” says CBI FIR.
The three assessment notes certified the performance of Beena Raizada as “excellent”.
During enquiry, VK Singh told the CBI that the signatures on the assessment notes resembled with his signatures, but he didn’t sign these documents. He also informed that Beena Raizada was not on duty for the period of 90 days during 2014 and 2015 and therefore, there was no question of writing an assessment report in her favour. Also, Singh informed that there was no way he could have written assessment report in 2016 as he was repatriated from CBI to his parent department in 2015.
The agency has booked Raizada under sections related to forgery.
