To do that the Congress will need a governance agenda. But the party hasn’t regained support among middle classes & its as-yet vague message doesn’t even have a good messenger
A successful electoral campaign in Indian politics is broadly composed of three pillars: Media buzz, electoral strategy and governance agenda.
The first two INDIA alliance meets were consumed almost entirely in creating a media buzz. The Mumbai meeting is reported to be focused on electoral strategy – putting in place the nuts and bolts of a seat-sharing formula and a shared organisational/ communication structure. Yet, the foundational pillar of successful electoral campaigns – the political/ governance agenda – remains largely ignored, as if awaiting an immaculate conception.
