NEW DELHI: The Centre is likely to clear the proposal for a state guesthouse of Jharkhand soon. Sources said the proposal to allot about an acre of land close to Connaught Place will be put up before the Cabinet. This will come as a big relief for the state which has been pursuing the case for a state Bhawan for over a decade.
Sources said construction of the guesthouse would take at least two years.
At present, the Jharkhand guesthouse is in Vasant Vihar while almost all states have their Bhawans central Delhi. Though Vasant Vihar is a prime residential area, visitors often find it difficult to commute to central Delhi where government offices are located.
The present state guesthouse has 20 rooms, which is inadequate to meet the requirement considering the number of legislators and state government officials who come down to Delhi frequently.
“We have finalized the plot after expert groups and teams visited the site. We have little land left in central Delhi. But a genuine demand of a state must be recognized,” a Union urban development ministry official said.
