Bijnor SP Neeraj Jadaun said, “Construction was underway on Dhampur-Seohara road where the accident took place. All injured persons were taken to the district hospital from where two people who had critical injuries — Anant Kumar, 25, and Satish Kumar, 50, were referred to a specialised centre in Meerut.”

Dr Radhe Shyam, a physician treating patients at the district hospital, said, “There is no specific treatment for burn injuries caused by coal tar. The treatment is the same as that for any other burn injury. Nevertheless, we have to remove the tar from the injuries using the prescribed solvents.”

The other injured were identified as Vinod Kumar, Vikas Kumar, Mukeem Ahmad, Mohd Waseem, bus driver Kuldeep Singh, labourers Dheer Singh, Mohd Nazeer, and Jahangeer.
