JALANDHAR: Punjab frontier of BorderSecurity Force (BSF) will deploy its first batch of women battalion along thehighly sensitive Indo-Pak border within a week.
"First batch of 178women constables was recently passed out and accordingly an initial training wasimparted to them and within a week they will be deployed on Indo-Pak border",Himmat Singh, Inspector General, told reporters.
Initially the womenstaff would be deployed for frisking of women villagers who cross the fence forgoing to their fields. After giving them required training, they would bedeployed for guarding the border along with their male colleagues, the IG said.
A total of 595 women constables were selected for training and aftertheir pass out, all of them would be deployed on Indo-Pak border, he added.
Asked whether the women constables would add to the glory of BeatingRetreat parade at Wagha Border, the IG said nothing has been decided in thisregard.
The IG revealed that shifting of fence in the Ferozepur andAbohar sectors will be started soon as survey and land acquisition process hasalready been completed.
"There were large chunk of land (about 23km) available on Indian side and accordingly decision of shifting of the fencewas decided after thorough survey", he added.
