Brother says he is clueless about Sheikh's whereabouts, rules out he's in Bangladesh

KOLKATA: Trinamool strongman Sheikh Shahjahan's brother Sheikh Alamgir returned to his Sarberia home on Saturday night and said he was clueless about his brother's whereabouts. He said Shahjahan was in hiding but ruled out that his brother, against whom a look-out notice had been served, was in Bangladesh. Sarberia is a village within the Sandeshkhali CD Block in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

Referring to Friday's attack on ED officials at Sarberia, Alamgir said the "unfortunate incident" could have been averted if the agency officials had served a notice on his brother, like they did for others, instead of forcing their way into the home. He added that Shahjahan was taking legal advice.

"I don't know if he is in the area. I came home last night. I will now look for him. If he is somewhere in Sandeshkhali, I will try to meet him. We are clueless about when he will decide to come into public again," said Alamgir on Sunday. Asked about the buzz over Shahjahan's 'escape' to Bangladesh, Alamgir said, "It is all rubbish. If he managed to go to Bangladesh, the Centre might have helped him. Otherwise it is not possible for him to cross the border."
