Gujarat govt to rebuild hostel damaged in AI-171 crash

Gujarat government said that the medical college hostel complex that was severely damaged in last year's AI-171 Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad will be rebuilt. This comes even as families of some victims demanded the site to be preserved as a memorial.

Health minister Praful Pansheriya said that the government will build a new ultra-modern hostel facility at the same site at an estimated cost of Rs 105 crore.

The London-bound Air India flight AI-171 crashed into the hostel complex of BJ Medical College in Meghaninagar area moments after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12 last year, killing 241 persons on board and 19 persons on the ground. One passenger survived.

Pregnant woman jumps to death in Delhi's Mustafabad; family alleges dowry torture

A 25-year-old pregnant woman allegedly died after falling from the fourth floor of a building in northeast Delhi’s Mustafabad, with her family accusing her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment, police said Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Monday. She was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

According to a preliminary probe, the woman had married a man of her choice around three months ago. Her family alleged that within weeks of the marriage, her husband and in-laws began demanding cash and gold and subjected her to mental harassment.
