Gangster Vikas Dubey, wanted for the killing of the eight policemen, was fired at when he tried to flee after a police convoy taking him to Kanpur, had overturned. Vikas Dubey encounter: Condition of 3 injured police personnel now stable (ANI)

The condition of three police personnel, injured in an encounter with the Kanpur encounter accused Vikas Dubey, is now stable, said Dr RB Kamal, Principal, LLR Hospital, Kanpur on Friday. "The condition of the three injured police personnel is now stable; bullets brushed by them. Vikas Dubey had three bullet injuries on the chest and one on his arm," said Dr Kamal while speaking to reporters. The fourth police personnel, however, sustained minor injuries.

UP ADG, law and order, Prashant Kumar, tells reporters in Lucknow, that vehicle carrying Dubey had overturned while taking advantage of the situation he also snatched pistol of a cop and tried to flee but was warned of action and asked to surrender. Instead, Dubey retaliated with a fire which provoked cops and they also shot back injuring Dubey. Later, Dubey was taken to a hospital and declared brought dead.

Petition filed in SC hours before encounter.

Hours before Vikas Dubey was killed in an encounter, a petition in the Supreme Court demanded urgent listing for action into the possible "killing" of Dubey by UP Police since other accused involved were killed in an encounter. Petitioner demanded a CBI monitored probe in the encounter of four other co-accused who had killed UP police officials. The plea had mentioned the possibility of the petition being rendered infructuous if not listed urgently.

Uttar Pradesh gangster Vikas Dubey, had stayed in Noida for two days after killing eight police officers in Kanpur. He spent a night in Kota and then reached Ujjain early morning, say sources. He got arrested from Mahakal temple in Ujjain on Thursday around 8.30am. Two people who accompanied him have also been detained. A vehicle registered at Ujjain has been confiscated. Another UP registered vehicle that they used to travel is being looked for, say police.
