PM Modi’s recent speech to party workers in Bhopal sparked a new, and in some ways, nuanced public debate on the idea of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

As expected, UCC is envisaged as a Muslim issue. For that reason Modi’s speech is interpreted as a clear manifestation of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Hindutva politics.
