: BJP is surging ahead to form the next government in

Arunachal Pradesh

as it bagged 25 seats in the assembly polls, the results of which were declared till 10.30 pm on Thursday.

The

saffron

party, which had earlier won three seats unopposed, was leading in 11 other seats with a huge margin at the time of filing this report. With this, the total tally of the party has shot up to 28. So far, results of 36 seats have been declared. JD(U), which fought the assembly polls in Arunachal for the first time, has won six seats so far.

The state has 60 assembly seats. While Congress could bag only three out of 46 seats it contested so far, the Janata Dal (United), which made its maiden entry in the state’s electoral scene, won six seats out of 15 it contested. Two Independent candidates also tasted success.

Tirong Aboh, the NPP candidate who was killed by suspected NSCN(IM) militants on May 21, won the

West assembly seat.
