NEW DELHI: BJP on Thursday has announced its candidates for the upcoming assembly by-polls in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh ahead of key elections.

In Rajasthan, Karilal Nanoma has been chosen as the party candidate from the Chorasi (ST) seat.

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has fielded seven candidates, including Ramvir Singh Thakur from Kundarki, Sanjeev Sharma from Ghaziabad, Surendra Diler from Khair (SC), Anujesh Yadav from Karhal, Deepak Patel from Phulpur, Dharmraj Nishad from Katehari, and Suchismita Maurya from Majhawan, the party’s only female candidate in this round of by-polls.


Expressing optimism about the party’s prospects, Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak said, “BJP is prepared for by-elections. All our candidates will win all 9 seats. PM Modi's poor welfare schemes have reached everyone and we are among the people regarding development and law & order in Uttar Pradesh. Public's blessings are with the BJP.”

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, in a show of unity with the Congress under the INDIA bloc, announced that their candidates would contest the by-elections in Uttar Pradesh under the Samajwadi Party's 'cycle' symbol.

As of Wednesday, 34 candidates had filed their nominations for the Uttar Pradesh by-polls, with the deadline for submissions set for October 25.

The counting of votes will take place on November 23. By-polls will be held for nine of the ten vacant assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, with the Milkipur seat in Ayodhya district excluded from this round.

These by-polls are part of a broader electoral exercise taking place across 48 constituencies in 15 states, including Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.

The voting will occur in two phases, with the first phase covering 47 assembly constituencies and the Wayanad parliamentary seat in Kerala on November 13. The second phase will be held on November 20 for the Kedarnath assembly constituency in Uttarakhand and the Nanded parliamentary seat in Maharashtra.
