NEW DELHI: The
Trinamool Congress on Sunday wrote a letter to the
Election commission of India regarding a complaint against West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar for allegedly brazenly threatening functionaries of the AITC with coercive action by ED.
The letter read, "Today, i.e., 30.03.2024, Mr. Sukanta Majumdar at a public meeting organized at Gangarampur made threatening remarks to Mr. Prasanta Mitra (who is the Chairman of Gangarampur Municipality and brother of Mr. Biplab Mitra who is AITC's candidate from 6 Balurghat Parliamentary Constituency). During his speech, he unequivocally stated that Mr. Prasanta Mitra will be taken into custody by the ED, for a period which is longer than his time served as the Chairman of the aforesaid Municipality."
Referring to a video clip the letter further said "The above-referred speech is a clear admission of the unholy nexus established by the BJP to win the present elections by compromising its sanctity. Furthermore, Mr. Sukanta Majumdar has also attempted to create a sense of terror amongst AITC's functionaries by announcing that steps would be taken against them by the Central departments/agencies. The aforesaid speech of Mr. Sukanta Majumdar must not be examined in isolation.
It must be seen keeping in mind the multiple incidents of illegalities previously brought to the Commission's notice by AITC. A holistic view would establish that a serious conspiracy is at play, in connivance between the Central departments/agencies and the BJP, whereby, the BJP has ensured that various leaders/candidates/functionaries of the opposition parties are kept occupied and/or harassed and/or petrified so that they are unable to participate freely in the present elections and achieve their desired goals."
