Bihar's Grand Alliance could register lead in only 18 of 243 assembly segments
PATNA: The six-party opposition’s grand alliance in Bihar could register lead in only 18 out of 243 Assembly segments in the state in the just-concluded Lok Sabha election.
Whereas three-party NDA which won 39 of total 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state reported lead in 225 out of total 243 assembly segments.
A detailed analysis of segment-wise results of the Lok Sabha election also revealed that the RJD which was leading partner of the Grand Alliance, could register lead in only nine assembly segments, though the party currently has 79 MLAs in state legislative assembly. It had won total of 81 assembly seats in 2015 state election.
Surprisingly, the RJD could register a lead of only 242 votes in Raghopur assembly segment which is represented by none other than the Leader of Opposition and Lalu Prasad’s heir apparent Tejashwi Prasad Yadav. Lalu’s elder son Tej Pratap failed to provide lead to the party candidate in his constituency Mahua. The RJD lost all 19 Lok Sabha seats from where it contested as part of seat-sharing among the six parties.

Similarly, former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi-led Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular (HAM-S) reported lead in two assembly segments –Rafiganj and Gurua, while the CPI-ML which contested lone Ara Lok Sabha seat could register lead in only one assembly segment Agiaon in Bhojpur district.

In the NDA camp, the BJP has registered lead in a total of 96 assembly segments, JD(U) 94 and LJP in 35 segments totalling 225 assembly segments across all 40 Lok Sabha seats including Kishanganj which was won by Congress candidate Dr Mohammad Javed. JD(U)’s Kishanganj candidate Syed Mohammad Ashraf registered lead in Thakurganj assembly segment.
