His remarks followed the arrest of Janata Dal (United) candidate Anant Kumar Singh in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj supporter Dularchand Yadav. Anant Kumar Singh, the Janata Dal (United) candidate from Mokama, was arrested by Patna Police in connection with the murder case of a Jan Suraaj supporter, Dularchand Yadav, the Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma said.
On October 30, a Jan Suraaj supporter, Dularchand Yadav, was killed during firing between the two sides while campaigning for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections in Mokama.

SSP said Anant Singh has been arrested along with two associates, Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram. All three will be presented before the magistrate.

"... On 30 October, there was a clash between two groups of competing candidates. Stones were pelted resulting in injuries. A dead body was recovered after the incident. The deceased, Dularchand Yadav, aged 75 years, was a resident of the village where this clash occurred... Both sides registered cases, and police started investigating the case... Based on evidence, eyewitness accounts, and the postmortem report of the deceased, it appears that the Model Code of Conduct was violated, and it is a serious issue. It was found that all this happened in the presence of the candidate, Anant Singh, who is also the main accused in the case. Anant Singh has been arrested. His accomplices, Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram, have also been arrested with him... All three will be presented before the magistrate, and due investigation will follow," SSP Patna, Kartikeya K Sharma said while addressing the media on Sunday.

He further said that the raids are being carried out to arrest others.

"Three people have been arrested on murder charges, and raids are being carried out to arrest others. Soon, more arrests will be made. CID has also started investigating the case... Cases have been registered under various sections... People from both groups have been arrested for misbehaving with the police and creating law and order issues... The three accused in the murder have not surrendered. They have been arrested," he added.

In a telephonic conversation with ANI, Jan Suraaj Party's candidate from Mokama, Piyush Priyadarshi said that Anant Singh should have been arrested sooner.

"This is a good gesture, but it would have been good had they taken action sooner. Today, he was moving around in a convoy of 50 vehicles and even participated in election campaigning. When an FIR was registered against him, he should have been arrested sooner... But better late than never. What is important now is how the police investigate the whole case... It is a relief for his family," Piyush Priyadarshi said after the arrest of Anant Singh.

On Saturday, two station house officers (SHOs) were suspended in connection with the murder case, officials confirmed. According to the Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) of Patna, Ghoswari SHO Madhusudan Kumar and Bhadaur SHO Ravi Ranjan have been suspended in the case.

Mokama is infamous for being a stronghold of influential and often controversial "strongmen" or "bahubalis" in Bihar politics, most notably Anant Kumar Singh, his brother Dilip Singh and Surajbhan Singh.

Mokama is now once again in the limelight after the murder of Dularchand Yadav, as the vote battle may be influenced because of the incident. This year, the electoral battle in Mokama Assembly constituency in Patna district, Bihar, is centred around two Bahubalis - Anant Singh and Surajbhan Singh, who dominate the region's political narrative.

Mokama, which will vote in the first phase on November 6, is once again set to witness a high-voltage electoral contest in the 2025 polls, as Janata Dal (United) has fielded strongman Anant Singh, while the Rashtriya Janata Dal has nominated Veena Devi, wife of former MP and influential leader Surajbhan Singh.

Both candidates come from the Bhumihaar community, setting the stage for a direct clash of political legacies in one of Bihar's most volatile yet politically significant constituencies.

Voting for Bihar's 243-seat Assembly will take place in two phases on November 6 and 11. Counting of votes will take place on November 14.

Bihar: Two SHOs suspended in Dularchand Yadav murder case in Mokama
Two station house officers (SHOs) have been suspended in connection with the murder case of a Jan Suraaj supporter, Dularchand Yadav, in Bihar's Mokama, officials confirmed on Saturday.
According to the Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) of Patna, Ghoswari SHO Madhusudan Kumar and Bhadaur SHO Ravi Ranjan have been suspended in the case.

On October 30, a Jan Suraaj supporter, Dularchand Yadav, was killed during firing between the two sides while campaigning for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections in Mokama.

The incident has sparked outrage in the political landscape, with leaders from different parties condemning the incident.

RJD leader and Mahagathbandhan Chief Ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav condemned the violence in Mokama.

Speaking to reporters, Yadav emphasised that violence has no place in democratic countries. He also questioned the administration and the Election Commission about the actions they have taken regarding the incident.

Both candidates come from the Bhumihaar community, setting the stage for a direct clash of political legacies in one of Bihar's most volatile yet politically significant constituencies.

The voting for the 243-seat Bihar Assembly will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, whereas bye-elections for eight seats across seven states and Union Territories will be held on November 11. The results for both will be declared on November 14.

Bihar: EC orders transfer of Patna SP following violence in Mokama
The Election Commission on Saturday ordered the transfer of Patna Superintendent of Police (Rural) following violence in Bihar's Mokama after the murder of a Jan Suraaj Party supporter.
Tension has gripped Mokama ahead of assembly polls in the state, after Jan Suraaj Party supporter Dularchand Yadav was killed during an election campaign.

On Friday, Yadav's supporters pelted stones at the car Rashtriya Janata Dal's Mokama candidate Veena Devi.

"The Commission has further directed that Vikram Sihag, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Patna may also be transferred. Hence, a panel of officers for posting a substitute in his place may be sent urgently," the poll authority told the state chief electoral officer.

The Election Commission on Friday sought a detailed report from the state at the earliest.

Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Priyanka Gandhi canvass in poll-bound Bihar amid inclement weather
Inclement weather cast a shadow on the election campaign in Bihar on Saturday, where leaders like Union minister Amit Shah, BJP president J P Nadda and Congress general secretary Priyanka Vadra had to either cancel their rallies or address those virtually.

Shah had rallies scheduled in Gopalganj, Samastipur and Vaishali districts, but since he was advised against taking a helicopter, the former BJP president addressed the people at the venues through video conference.

Nadda, who faced similar constraints, adopted the same strategy for rallies scheduled in Siwan and Muzaffarpur districts.

Vadra, who canvassed in a Bihar election for the first time, travelled by road to address her rally in Begusarai, about 120 km from the state capital, though her next election meeting in Khagaria, which would have entailed another two-hour drive, had to be cancelled.

While Shah called the election “a choice between progress under Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar, and those who would bring back jungle raj in Bihar”, Nadda, too, raked up the “lawlessness” that allegedly prevailed while the RJD was in power in Bihar.

Vadra slammed the ruling NDA for “putting the blame of everything on Congress, Nehru and Indira Gandhi”, and alleged that claims of a double-engine government notwithstanding, the government in the state was being “run from Delhi” with “neither the people nor Chief Minister Nitish Kumar being treated with respect”.

However, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, who had flown down to Hayaghat in Darbhanga, to canvass in favour of former MLA and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad’s personal aide Bhola Yadav, did manage to address a rally.

Another noteworthy roadshow was held late in the evening, in Muzaffarpur district, by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Phadnavis, who joined Union minister and BJP ally Chirag Paswan for canvassing in favour of NDA candidates.

With election rallies being hampered by the weather, many leaders, including Nitish Kumar, who heads the JD(U), chose to take out roadshows. Kumar’s roadshow in Madhubani followed an early morning video message on social media in which the CM urged the people to continue reposing their trust in his leadership.

He later also addressed a rally in Vaishali.

INDIA bloc chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav addressed some of the rallies through a video call over phone, before deciding that it was time to venture out.

The RJD leader addressed a rally in Raghunathpur, where its candidate Osama, the son of former Siwan MP Mohd Shahabuddin, whose name struck terror while he was alive, is often being cited by NDA leaders to allege that the party wanted to bring back “jungle raj”.

The BJP-led coalition, which has been ruling the state for 20 years, was criticised for running a “negative campaign” by CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat, who was in the state capital to launch the manifesto of the party, which is contesting the polls as an INDIA bloc partner.

Meanwhile, Union minister Piyush Goyal addressed the media in the state capital where he reiterated the NDA’s promise to help Bihar scale greater heights, and claimed that the journey towards progress will be hampered if the RJD-helmed coalition came to power.

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate fulminated against the ruling NDA at press conferences in Patna and Muzaffarpur. Former JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar, the national in-charge of the Congress’ student wing NSUI, urged the people, through the media, to “vote for a change”.

The murder of Dular Chand Yadav, a gangster-turned-politician who was formerly associated with the RJD but was supporting Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party, was cited by INDIA bloc leaders as an example of bad law and order in the NDA-ruled state. The Election Commission, which had on Friday sought a report from the state police chief, ordered the transfer of at least three officials posted at Mokama, the site of the incident.

Preparations were also underway for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tour of the state on Sunday, when he is scheduled to address rallies in Bhojpur and Nawada districts, followed by a “mega roadshow” in Patna.

CPI(M) releases manifesto for Bihar polls
The CPI(M), which is a part of the opposition INDIA bloc, on Saturday issued its manifesto for the assembly elections in Bihar.

Releasing the manifesto of her party, senior CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat charged the ruling NDA with carrying out a "negative campaign" in the assembly elections and slandering opposition leaders out of "desperation".

"The NDA has been running a negative campaign, pointing fingers at the opposition, which was perhaps inevitable since they have nothing to showcase by way of achievements in the two decades they have been in power in Bihar," said Karat.

Referring to the killing of Jan Suraaj Party supporter Dular Chand Yadav in Mokama, where supporters of the deceased have been alleging the complicity of local JD(U) candidate and former MLA Anant Singh, Karat said that "incident is proof that mafia raj and jungle raj prevail in Bihar under the NDA rule".

"Lawlessness is not something that the INDIA bloc is going to bring to the state," she added.

Karat also expressed bewilderment over Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma calling Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi "an agent of Pakistan".

"It is appalling that BJP leaders are speaking whatever they wish without even pausing to reflect. Such things to say about someone whose family has been in public life for so long," she said.

The CPI(M) leader said her party's manifesto was in line with the INDIA bloc's commitment to ensuring employment generation in Bihar, from where "people are forced to migrate in search of livelihood to places like Gujarat, where they are denied even the minimum daily wage fixed by the government".
