Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh will not join trade unions strike

NEW DELHI: Calling the Centre’s decision to issue notification on bonus payment as a historical victory for Indian workers, RSS-affiliate Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) decided not to join the September 2 nation-wide strike call given by central trade unions.

In a statement, BMS said the inter-ministerial group headed by finance minister Arun Jaitely after consultation with the trade union has decided that the Bonus Amendment Act will be implemented strictly and the Centre will pay bonus for the years 2014-15 and 2015-16 based on revised norms.

“BMS directs all its affiliate unions, members and well wishers not to participate in any strike on 2nd September 2016,” said BMS general secretary Virjesh Upadhyay.

The statement said the government has decided to fix the minimum wages at Rs 350/- per day for unskilled non-agricultural workers for ‘C’ category areas keeping in view the modalities of fixing minimum wages.

"The registration of the contract workers and their staffing agencies is mandatory as per law and states will be advised to strictly implement the same," it said. Erring contractors will face appropriate action for any violation in this regard.

The BMS said the issue of giving social security benefit to the unorganised sector (e.g., Anganwadi, Mid-day meal, Asha, Volunteers etc.) will be examined by a committee which will give its report at the earliest.

The trade union said that advisories will be issued to all the States Governments to ensure that registration of trade unions takes place within 45 days.

“BMS strongly feels that, the outcome of the talks were the more fruitful and great achievement for Indian workers in the recent past,” the statement said.
