KISHANGANJ: Emphasising the significance of education, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said here on Tuesday the purpose of education should not merely be earning money, but also enriching the moral and cultural fabric of the society.
The RSS chief, who dedicated the newly constructed building of Saraswati Vidya Mandir at Deksara on the outskirts of Kishanganj, also said true education separates people from animal instincts and prevents them from slipping into moral degradation and perversion.
On a maiden visit to the border town, Bhagwat called for spread of education among women who, he insisted, contribute no less in nation building. He said there was a greater need for spread of education in the border regions of the country, which continue to wallow in backwardness and neglect. He asked people to come forward and help open Vidya Mandir-type schools. "At a time when the world is passing through a critical phase, one only needed not to go astray, and remain within the confines of religious bindings," he said.
Former Union minister B S Ramoowalia presided over the meeting. Regional secretary Rajmani Prasad, RSS' north-east sanchalak Sidhnath Singh, BJP MLC Dilip Kumar Jaisawal and octogenarian lawyer and RSS worker Balchandra Agrawal were also among those present. A large number of RSS workers had congregated on the school campus for the occasion from neighbouring districts of Bihar and West Bengal.
