Bengaluru rains: More than 150 houses inundated, waterlogging halts traffic

Moderate to heavy rain hit Bengaluru on Tuesday, causing widespread flooding and disruption. While no casualties were reported, around 150 houses were flooded across the city. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an 'orange alert' for Wednesday and Thursday. The city recorded 6 cm of rainfall between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, with HAL receiving 8 cm, the highest in the state.

Residents of the Kendriya Vihar Apartment in Yelahanka were rescued with the help of tractor trolleys after the area was flooded because of the heavy rains.

Disturbing images from Balagere Panathur Road depicted a biker struggling to maintain balance amid the heavy flooding.

The Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS) issued an advisory urging IT, BT, and private companies to allow employees to work from home due to the forecast of heavy rain in Bengaluru. The advisory emphasized employee safety, citing potential transportation disruptions caused by flooding, waterlogging, and traffic congestion.

Several roads in the CBD and nearby areas saw slow traffic on Tuesday, especially during peak hours. Severe waterlogging at Hunasamaranahalli Junction in Chikkajala, near Yelahanka, affected traffic to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). Buses, trucks, and cars avoided the deeper sections, resulting in traffic jam.

Karnataka deputy CM D K Shivakumar urged residents to take precautions amid ongoing rains in Bengaluru, assuring that the government is prepared to address any issues.
