'There's nothing serious': Mamata on condition of injured BJP MP Khagen Murmu - watch
NEW DELHI: chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday visited at a private hospital in Siliguri and said there was 'nothing serious'.
"I have seen the report. He is under observation due to high diabetes and has an injury behind his ears,” the chief minister added while speaking to the reporters outside the hospital
"Do you have diabetes? Are you taking insulin and medicines regularly?" she was heard asking Murmu.
The BJP MP is being treated after being attacked in Nagarkata during his visit to flood and landslide-hit areas in north Bengal.
The chief minister further said, “I have received all the details. His blood sugar is high and needs to be controlled. I wished him a speedy recovery.”
TMC sources said Banerjee also spoke to doctors and assured Murmu of full support from the state government.
Murmu was attacked on Monday, allegedly by a group of miscreants, while speaking with local residents in a disaster-affected area. BJP MLA Sankar Ghosh was also assaulted during the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, stones were pelted at Murmu’s car, leaving him with severe head injuries.Visuals from the scene showed the MP bleeding profusely, with his face and clothes soaked in blood.
The attack has sparked a political war of words, with the BJP accusing the TMC of being behind the assault. The ruling party, in turn, alleged that BJP leaders were using the crisis for publicity in the flood-hit regions.

While the BJP welcomed Banerjee's visit as a "political courtesy", it questioned the "inaction" of the police.
"It is appalling that even after 24 hours, not a single arrest has been made. The culprits are roaming free," said state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya.
AITMC on Tuesday also alleged that BJP-backed goons attacked its Tripura office, hours after the Bharatiya Janata Party accused TMC of targeting its MPs and MLAs in West Bengal.
Meanwhile, the BJP leaders on Tuesday protested against the attack. They were marching towards Banga Bhawan on Hailey Road, but were stopped by the police at a barricade.
Addressing the protesters, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said the attack was a result of Mamata Banerjee’s appeasement politics. “Appeasement politics has blinded Mamata Banerjee. This time, the people of Bengal will give her a befitting reply,” he said, referring to the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
