Union power minister argues the Narendra Modi government has freed Indians of the electricity constraint
In the past nine years, the Narendra Modi government has achieved a remarkable transformation in the power sector. Before 2014-15, the deficit in power supply was at 4.5%. However, since the government took office in 2014, an impressive 185 gigawatts (GW) of generation capacity has been added, turning the country from power deficit to power surplus. As a result, India is now exporting power to its neighbours.
