Ayodhya sets new Guinness World record, lights 22.23 lakh diyas on Diwali eve
The Deepotsav in the temple city of Ayodhya has once again made a Guinness world record after over 22.23 lakh Diyas were lit at 51 ghats at the same time as part of Diwali celebrations. (Image: PTI)
Over 25000 volunteers from Avadh University and the Ayodhya district administration have been roped in to light the diyas at the same time. The Guinness Book of World Records team counted the lamps with the help of a drone camera. (Image: PTI)

Stories from the Ramayana were depicted. Dancers will present Dhobiya dance from Azamgarh, Kullu Nati from Himachal Pradesh, Gatka and Bhangra dance from Punjab, Garba from Gujarat, Dhol Tasha from Nagpur and other Indian dance forms in the procession. (Image: PTI)

The chief minister performed the Saryu Aarti at 6.30 pm on the Diwali eve and inaugurated the festival of lights at Ram Ki Paidi, the series of ghats on the Saryu river bank, at 7.30 pm. After the Deepotsav, a laser show has been organised in the city. (Image: ANI)
Earlier in the day, a procession featuring eighteen tableaux, centered around themes from the Ramayana, Ramcharitmanas, and various social issues, made its way through Ayodhya. These tableaux, which highlighted concerns such as children's rights, women's safety, self-reliance, environmental protection, and advancements in science and technology, reflected various government initiatives.
The procession, inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Minister of Tourism and Culture Jaiveer Singh, commenced from Udaya Square and traversed different parts of the city before concluding at Ram Katha Park. Notably, this year's Deepotsav is particularly significant as Ayodhya is actively engaged in the construction of the Ram temple.
