'Attempts to sensationalise': Nadda responds to Kharge's letter to President on Manipur situation

NEW DELHI: BJP national president JP Nadda on Friday responded to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge's letter to President Droupadi Murmu in connection with Manipur violence.

In his letter, Nadda accused Congress of attempting to heighten tensions regarding the Manipur situation.

"What is shocking is how repeated attempts are being made by the Congress party to sensationalise the situation in Manipur. It appears that you have forgotten that not only did your government legitimise the illegal migration of foreign militants to India, P Chidambaram the erstwhile home minister - had signed treaties with them! Furthermore, these known militant leaders fleeing their country to avoid arrest were wholeheartedly endorsed and encouraged to carry on their destabilising efforts," Nadda said.

"This complete failure of India's security and administrative protocols under your government is one of the major reasons why militant and habitually violent organisations are attempting to destroy the hard-won peace in Manipur and push it back several decades into the age of Anarchy," he added.



Nadda assured that the government is actively addressing the Manipur situation, with ongoing NIA investigations. The BJP party chief affirmed that the government's priority remains maintaining order and restoring normality in the state.

"The entire focus of our government has been on maintaining law and order and bringing normalcy to the state. From resources to personnel and provisions — the entire government machinery is devoted to bringing bad peace and harmony to Manipur," Nadda said.

This response followed Kharge's letter to President Murmu requesting intervention in the Manipur crisis. Kharge, in his letter, highlighted the failure of both state and Union governments in restoring peace over 18 months, noting over 300 casualties and widespread displacement.


The situation in Manipur remains tense, with continuing ethnic conflicts between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities resulting in numerous casualties since last year. The recent Assembly resolution called for action against Kuki militants and AFSPA review, whilst internet restrictions continue until November 20.
