Assailants gun down Shiv Sena corporator
MUMBAI: Shiv Sena corporator Kamlakar Bhaskar Jamsandekar was shot dead inside his residence-cum-office in Asalpha village, Saki Naka, by unknown assailants late on Friday evening.
Jamsandekar, 46, had returned from work at 2.30 pm, and was resting after lunch when the men arrived, said Vasant Pawar, a friend of the corporator. Jamsandekar's wife, Komal, had gone to pick up their eight-year-old son from a nearby school.
Jamsandekar, who was shot in the head, collapsed on the floor and his 12-year-old daughter, Saylee, and her cousin, Malini, rushed down on hearing the gunshot. They saw the two assailants running away.
Police suspect that Jamsandekar may have known his killers as he allowed them to enter his premises and apparently even sat talking with them for a couple of minutes before he was shot at point-blank range.
Police are ascertaining the number of persons involved in the killing, as some neighbours have said they saw three men escaping in two different directions towards Ghatkopar.
They believe that the weapon used was possibly a 12-bore shotgun, which is mostly used by private security personnel. A small piece of the frame of the gun was found at the scene.
Jamsandekar, who won the 2007 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections from Ward 152, would have been taking
office for the third time as a corporator on March 10, when the next five-year BMC House will begin business.
