MEERUT: A bulldozer driver — allegedly in an inebriated state — brought down a part of the Chhajarsi toll plaza on the Delhi-Lucknow highway in Hapur on Tuesday after he was asked to pay toll fee, reports Rahul Singh. Police said that after vandalising two toll booths, Dheeraj Kumar, the driver, 25, tried to knock down the toll staff as well.

Chhajarsi toll plaza manager, Ajeet Chaudhary, said: “Around 8am, a bulldozer arrived at the toll plaza and the attendant asked him to pay the fee to cross over. The man, at first, argued that bulldozers were exempted at the toll. Then all of a sudden, he went berserk and rammed into two booths.” “Police personnel arrested the driver, who belongs to Budaun, after chasing him for a few kms. An FIR was registered against him,” said Abhishek Verma, SP (Hapur).Four days ago, a speeding car ran over a 25-year-old toll staff at the same plaza leaving him critically injured. Police, in that case, said the driver tried to avoid paying the toll fee.
