China has finally appointed its new ambassador, but will it admit the primacy of border peace India sees as essential to put the relationship — which PM Modi has described as important for the entire world — back on course?

After an 18-month hiatus, the longest since the restoration of ambassadorial relations in 1976, China last week finally appointed a new ambassador to India. Xu Feihong, who has served in the past as ambassador to Afghanistan and Romania, will soon take over as the 17th Chinese ambassador to India.
